Defense Minister: VIKI and Sweden’s SAAB sign cooperation agreement

SAAB will contribute to the development of the Hungarian Air Force’s capabilities as well as the virtual training needs of the supporting operational capacities.

Defense Minister Kristóf Szalay-Bobrovniczky said the defense ministry’s Defense Innovation Research Institute (VIKI) and Sweden’s SAAB have signed a declaration of cooperation detailing the timetable of their joint work.

Deputy state secretary László Deme, the designated chief executive of VIKI, held talks with SAAB executives, discussing specific cooperation steps in the field of extended reality (XR), Minister Szalay-Bobrovniczky said, according to a ministry statement. Under the agreement signed by the defense ministry and SAAB in March, the partners will set up a Centre of Excellence employing AI. SAAB will contribute to the development of the Hungarian Air Force’s capabilities as well as the “virtual training needs of the supporting operational capacities”, the statement said. Also, a maintenance training pilot project employing AI will be launched at the centre coordinated by VIKI, the ministry added.
