Coronavirus UPDATE – Hungary’s COVID-19 data is up-to-date and reliable

Some media outlets – out of a desire for sensationalism or worse – are trying to appeal to readers by questioning the government’s official COVID-19 data.

The Hungarian government has been closely following both international and domestic events since the virus first hit. In particular, with the help of the National Center for Public Health, the government is continuously monitoring the number of screenings and the condition of patients (including the number of infected, recovered, deceased, and quarantined) both in Hungary and worldwide.

We’ve been doing everything we can to keep the public informed. The latest information and official data appear in Hungarian at koronavirus.gov.hu and in English at abouthungary.hu/coronavirus. Both platforms are kept up-to-date with information that is reliable and publicly available to everyone.

To report speculation and unfounded rumors is seriously irresponsible, causes for unnecessary confusion and may contribute to panic. We saw this in the unfounded and completely fictitious reports late last week of government plans to close Budapest.

It’s really not helpful at a time when we should all be pulling together.
