Operational Group: Government will create same number of jobs that the epidemic destroys

The government has created 1 million jobs over the last 10 years, Deputy Minister at the Ministry of Innovation and Technology Tamás Schanda said, adding that Hungary will adhere to its policy of job creation and create as many jobs as the coronavirus destroys. Meanwhile, Lieutenant Colonel of the Hungarian Police Róbert Kiss reported an increase in police actions in Budapest and the surrounding Pest County during last week.

Speaking at today’s Operational Group press conference, Deputy Minister at the Ministry of Innovation and Technology Tamás Schanda said that the Hungarian government will not abandon its policy of job creation due to the coronavirus. “As many jobs will be created as are destroyed by the epidemic,” the deputy minister added.

“So far, 163,000 Hungarians have turned to authorities for help because they lost their jobs,” Schanda said. The government, he continued, aims to help those in need with wage support programs, tax reductions, interest-free loans and a moratorium on loan repayments.

Dr. Gábor Csató, the Director-General of Hungary’s National Ambulance Service, noted that organized ambulance services began in Hungary 133 years ago today. Csató praised the service’s ability to rise to the challenge of the current crisis, saying that they have been able “to carry out our tasks at the highest possible level, even during an epidemic.”

Responding to a question by news portal Origo, Lieutenant Colonel of the Hungarian Police Róbert Kiss said that police officers had to take action in 24,564 cases in the latest period due to violations of movement restrictions in Budapest and the surrounding Pest County. Meanwhile, 336 people have voluntarily agreed to use the supervisory software designed to monitor them while in compulsory home quarantine.
