31 illegal immigrants found in Budapest man's van

Twenty-nine of the illegal immigrants claim to be Afghan citizens and two are Indian. The driver is from Budapest and is suspected of human smuggling.

A 54 year-old Hungarian man has been arrested and taken into custody after being caught transporting 31 illegal migrants in a van.

According to MTI, the man was taken into custody in the eastern Hungarian town of Polgár after officials from the Customs and Tax Office tried to stop the van for a random check of its cargo on motorway M3, but the driver tried to flee.

Reports state that when the driver was forced to stop in the town, twenty-nine men and two boys were found in the cargo bay. The passengers were unable to present identification or travel documents.
