The Hungarian government will acquire 75 percent of Balatoni Hajózási Zrt. to revamp boats, ports and areas surrounding Lake Balaton.

According to the latest proposals, the Balaton-based boat industry will be modernized by 2030 following 6.6 billion HUF being allocated for the project.

Free Wi-Fi, an extended fleet, four new ferries and a new, disabled-friendly, easy-to-access yacht with an extra large bicycle storage area are all part of the new plan. What’s more, the ports, dockyards and harbors are also expected to undergo reconstruction works.

Balatoni Hajózási Zrt was previously owned by 21 of the local councils. The state procured the firm to speed up renovation processes and to provide improved services, working towards safer, more enjoyable and higher-quality sailing and boating experiences at the popular tourist destination.
