Brown bears return to Hungary

A European brown bear and her cub were sighted along with multiple tracks around the northern border in Aggtelek National Park

Brown bears have been spotted in Hungary for the first time in a while, it has been reported.

According to 24.hu, a European brown bear and her cub were sighted along with multiple tracks around the northern border in Aggtelek National Park.

The national park’s website highlighted that the brown bear is now becoming more and more popular in the area. The last time a mother and her cub were spotted was in 2008.

There are only about 17,000 brown bears left in Europe. There are an estimated 7,200 bears living in the Carpathians, 6,000 of those reside in Romania.
