Budapest cancels Red Bull Air Race

Mayor István Tarlós has suggested that the event could be held at the Danube Bend or over one of the larger lakes in the country

Budapest has cancelled the Red Bull Air Race which was due to run in July, it has been announced.

Sources state that the municipality of Budapest will not grant a permit to this year’s race because of complaints from locals about noise and interruptions.

Mayor István Tarlós has suggested that the event could be held at the Danube Bend or over one of the larger lakes in the country.

The annual event has often been criticized for the large noise and air pollution involved, as well concerns over safety.
