The general assembly of Budapest has unanimously voted to support plans to host the 2023 World Athletics Championships in Hungary’s capital city.
The planned new stadium in District 9 will not only host the world championship events, but will also be constructed as a facility that serves local participant sports and could be used for cultural events as a recreational park.
The assembly has authorized Mayor Gergely Karácsony to negotiate with the government concerning the planned world championships and give briefings on his talks.
