Budapest’s BuBi bike-sharing system was used roughly 645,000 times in 2016, official figures have shown.

According to Világgazdaság, although the number is impressive it’s still slightly down from 652,000 in 2015.

The MOL BuBi bicycle network consists of 124 docking stations and 1,486 bikes, and was launched in the autumn of 2014.

The bike network was used a staggering 815,000 times during its first year of operation, operator Budapest Public Transport Centre (BKK) said.

MOL estimates that the cost to run the system comes in at 260 million HUF (839,000 EUR) per year. The bikes only generate an estimated 70 million HUF per year in return.
