Since the temporary reintroduction of border controls on Thursday, more than 460 Hungarian nationals entering Hungary at the Austrian-Slovenian border have been ordered into compulsory home quarantine by the authorities.
Kristóf Gál, spokesman for the Hungarian National Police Headquarters, said police checks on arrivals at the Austrian-Slovenian border are part of the defense measures against the coronavirus.
Gál said 32,681 Hungarians have so far been checked at the borders and 427 foreign nationals were refused entry.
Foreigners coming from an infected area are not allowed to enter Hungary, and Hungarians coming from an infected area are either hospitalized or subject to compulsory home quarantine, depending on the outcome of the health check.
The spokesman explained that those in home quarantine must put a sign on their door, should not leave their accommodation, avoid welcoming guests, and refrain from contact with anyone. If there are no family or friends who can assist, care will be provided by the local municipality.
