Coronavirus Update: CMO reveals a decline in new COVID-19 cases

“Only 39 new cases have been registered in the last 24 hours, the number of confirmed cases has significantly reduced over several days; and previous model calculations seem to be confirmed,” Cecília Müller said today.

During today’s Operational Group press conference, Chief Medical Officer Cecília Müller revealed a decline in new COVID-19 cases and a thorough inspection has been ordered in baths and spas.

“Only 39 new cases have been registered in the last 24 hours, the number of confirmed cases has significantly reduced over several days; and previous model calculations seem to be confirmed,” she said.

The number of active infections currently stands at 1,966 while 800 patients have so far recovered. “The vast majority of cases are still registered in the capital and in Pest County,” the CMO said, adding that 968 coronavirus patients are currently hospitalized, 50 of them on ventilators.

Müller also revealed that in a slow process of returning to normal life, all beaches, baths and spas will be inspected. “Everyone should be careful and an adequate distance should be kept at beaches and spas to minimize the risk of possible infection,” she said, adding that “there must be at least four square meters of water per guest”.
