Coronavirus Update: CMO says the first wave of the coronavirus will “soon be behind us"

Chief Medical Officer Cecília Müller said the first wave of the coronavirus will “soon be behind us", as the number of recovered patients in Hungary is now double the number of active COVID-19 cases.

During today's Operational Group press conference, Chief Medical Officer Cecília Müller said the first wave of the coronavirus will “soon be behind us", as the number of recovered patients in Hungary is now double the number of active COVID-19 cases.

During the last 24 hours, Müller said the coronavirus infection was confirmed in six cases, bringing the total number of patients to 4,014. “Two elderly patients with underlying chronic conditions have passed away, so the number of deceased now stands at 548,” the CMO said, adding that 2,284 have already recovered from the disease.

“Underlying conditions were not present in only 4 percent of those who have succumbed to the virus,” the chief medical officer said. Right now, there are 1,182 active cases in Hungary, 41 percent of whom reside in Budapest. There are 21 patients currently on ventilators.
