Coronavirus Update: Government helps Hungarian communities beyond the border

The government is helping out Hungarian communities beyond the border by providing them with 600,000 face masks and tens of thousands of items of protective clothing, equipment and coronavirus tests.

Peter Szijjártó, Minister of Foreign Affairs and Trade, said the government is helping out Hungarian communities beyond the border by providing them with 600,000 face masks and tens of thousands of items of protective clothing, equipment and coronavirus tests.

The minister said Hungary is in a position to help thanks to its ties to China and its own production capacities. He noted that Hungary has bought 30 million face masks from China, while its own production line will soon be producing 2,800,000 masks each month.

Almost all Hungarian communities abroad have approached the government for help, and some hospitals are being stretched to the full, he added. “It’s our duty to protect the health and lives of Hungarians,” he said. Large shipments will also arrive from China in the next few weeks.
