In view of the current epidemiological situation, MÁV-Start is extending its deadline for refunding international rail tickets from April 11 until April 30, irrespective of the country of destination.

In view of the current epidemiological situation, MÁV-Start is extending its deadline for refunding international rail tickets from April 11 until April 30, irrespective of the country of destination.

Hungarian State Railways (MÁV) also announced that international rail tickets are currently purchasable without restriction for trains that are as yet unaffected by travel restrictions.

According to the information provided, in the case of international tickets, customers can submit their refund request personally at international ticket offices and customer service offices, but can also indicate their request for a refund electronically at the eszrevetel@mav-start.hu e-mail address, in which case the original ticket must be sent to the customer services department by post at the following address: 1426. Budapest, Pf.: 56.

If the value of international tickets purchased at the ticket office with cash or using a credit card does not exceed HUF 50,000, customers can ask for an immediate, full cash refund personally at international ticket offices and customer service offices, and in the case of purchases made by card, the ticket office will transfer the funds back to the customer’s bank account.

In the case of tickets costing over HUF 50,000, customers must use a refund request form, which is also available to download online from the railway company’s website, and the value of the ticket will be refunded to the customer’s bank account.
