Coronavirus Update: MEP says European Parliament will discredit themselves by holding debate on Hungarian law

Fidesz MEP Tamás Deutsch has said European Parliament is about to discredit itself by holding a debate next week on Hungary’s coronavirus law, insisting that the debate would be about something that has already been factually refuted.

Fidesz MEP Tamás Deutsch has said European Parliament is about to discredit itself by holding a debate next week on Hungary’s coronavirus law, insisting that the debate would be about something that has already been factually refuted.

He noted that Věra Jourová, the EC vice president for values and transparency, has said that the Commission had assessed the Hungarian legislation on the state of emergency and found nothing objectionable from the point of view of EU law.

Deutsch said her statement has made the EC’s position clear “once and for all”. At the proposal of the Greens, the EP has nevertheless decided to hold another debate on “the dire state of constitutionality in Hungary,” he said.
