The secretary of state mentioned that it was also possible that the decision concerning the quota was just a “strategic withdrawal” on the EU’s part, and it would be taken up again at the very first opportunity.
“If the EU provided guarantees that this would not happen in the future (…), then the question of the referendum would obviously become devoid of purpose”, he said, adding, however, that at the moment this was not the direction that things follow.
