Euro 2016: Hungary beaten by Belgium

Hungary knocked out of Euro 2016 after a 4-0 defeat to Belgium

Hungary have been knocked out of the Euro 2016 football championships after a 4-0 defeat to Belgium.

The match was outstanding in Toulouse last night, with Eden Hazard delivering a strong performance.

Belgium will now face Wales in the quarter-finals later this week.

Although Hungary lost last night, the nation is still exceptionally proud of their team and for doing so well in their first international tournament in over 30 years. Undefeated after the first three matches, Hungary took first in their group, finishing ahead of the higher ranked Austria and Portugal before qualifying for the final 16.

The "Magic Magyars" were the best side in the world in the 1950s when Ferenc Puskas and his fabled teammates were in their prime, famously thrashing England 7-1 in 1954.

In 1986, Hungary arrived at the World Cup in Mexico as the top-ranked side in Europe, but collapsed 6-0 to the Soviet Union in their opening game, and crashed out in the first round.

Critics are now saying that Hungary will use their success in Euro 2016 to continue their success on the international football circuit in the years to come.

Well done, Magic Magyars!
