FINA World Championships is the largest sports event Hungary has ever hosted

Hungary has prepared for the sports event with the construction of new facilities and the refurbishment of old ones

The FINA World Aquatics Championships is the largest sports event Hungary has ever hosted, János Lázár, the minister heading the Prime Minister’s Office, has said.

Lázár said Hungary has done an exceptional job hosting the World Championships as a last-minute “stand-in” following Mexico's withdrawal.

He added that the country has prepared for the sports event with the construction of new facilities and the refurbishment of old ones.

The government has spent 85 billion HUF on the construction of the new facilities and subsidising Hungarian aquatic sports, the minsiter added.

Lázár revealed that almost 100 Hungarian athletes are entering the championships, and for the first time in the history of the World Aquatics Championships, Hungarian swimmers will be present in every discipline.
