Péter Szijjártó, Minister of Foreign Affairs and Trade, said that hopefully "progress will be made" when officials from Ukraine and Hungary meet to resolve issues such as the rights of the Transcarpathian Hungarian community and long waiting times at the border.
Minister Szijjártó said he has spoken by phone with Andriy Yermak, head of the Ukrainian president’s office, and they reviewed the situation regarding the rights of the Transcarpathian Hungarian community. In a post on Facebook, Minister Szijjártó said that following a decision made at their previous meeting in Uzhhorod on Jan 29, a working group will hold an online consultation on Thursday, adding he was hopeful that “progress will be made”. “We reviewed the infrastructure development projects at the Ukrainian-Hungarian border and established that while progressing at a good pace, they must be speeded up so as to eliminate … long waiting times,” he wrote. Minister Szijjártó will hold talks with the Ukrainian foreign minister on the sidelines of a meeting of NATO foreign ministers on Wednesday.
