Hungarian film Chuchotage shortlisted for Oscars

Chuchotage by Barnabás Tóth is the only Hungarian film to have been shortlisted for the 91st Academy Awards

Hungarian film Chuchotage has been shortlisted for an Oscar in the Best Live Short Action Film category.

The film by Barnabás Tóth - the brains behind the huge hit My Guide - is the only Hungarian film to have been shortlisted for the 91st Academy Awards.

The Hungarian film industry is booming and is set to improve even further after recently raising its production incentive from 25 to 30 percent.

Hungary is currently Europe's second biggest film producing nation behind Britain - and experts believe the latest incentive may very well push it to number one.

The support scheme will be extended until the end of 2024, and is available for films, TV series, documentaries and animation shooting in Hungary.

The incentive has been increased to “preserve Hungary’s leading position and competitiveness in the European film industry,” according to a statement from the Hungarian National Film Fund.

Hungary is now central and eastern Europe’s most popular destination for international production shoots.
