A Hungarian man shot dead in the Philippines over the New Year holidays was wanted in Hungary over drug charges, it has been revealed.

Daniel Melczer died as a result of several gun shots to the head fired by his neighbor Lucindo Lim following a dispute over firecrackers on New Year’s Eve.

According to borsonline.hu, the 37-year-old Hungarian found himself involved in a serious drug-related crime in 2013. Hungarian police raised charges against Melczer but he fled, so they issued an arrest warrant.

Melczer escaped Hungary with his girlfriend Réka Schule who found his body at the house they rented in Barangay Balabag in Pavia, Iloilo city. The family declined to comment.
