Mechatronics engineering has topped the university wish list for Hungarian students this year.
Tens of thousands of students awaited with trepidation the official university entry limits published by the Hungarian Office for Education (OH) to see whether they made it into their school of choice.
According to Rmx.news, this year Hungarian higher education institutions enrolled 78,900 students for the 2019-20 academic year, three thousand more than last year.
Hungary doesn’t have dedicated admission exams, instead students are assigned points for their last two high school years and high school graduation grades, supplemented with extra points for language certificates and results at student competitions. They can thus accumulate a maximum of 500 points.
The OH admission list showed one of the most popular tuitions was mechatronic engineering, with at least 440 points required for entry, followed by physiotherapy with 439 points. Actually, the highest requirement of 490 points was at the Germanic languages Bsc course at Pécs university with 490 points, but that is a bespoke course with very few students, thus more a statistical fluke.
Traditional training such as medicine, economics, management and law remained among the most sought-after. Of the 78,900 students admitted 62,000 will start their studies in state-sponsored tuition while the remaining 17,000 will be paying students.
