Hungary aims to be in top 10 of safest countries in the world

Hungary currently ranks 15 out of 163 countries in terms of safety

Prime Minister Viktor Orbán has said that he expects Hungary to make it into the top 10 of the safest countries in the world.

János Lázár, the minister heading the Prime Minister’s Office, said the prime minister has expressed this wish to his government to ensure it will happen.

The minister cited the result of a recent safety survey which placed Hungary 15 out of 163 countries, which he evaluated as a great achievement as this means that Hungary is now one of the world’s safest countries.

He said that this confirms the work completed by the government in recent years which has the security and the protection of the people at its center, given that the state of public security was one of the most serious deficits of the period between 2006 and 2010.

The minister pointed out that the government had reinforced the protection of the borders, and urged for a more thorough vetting procedure for border crossers.
