Hungary summons Dutch ambassador over PM Rutte’s remarks

Tamás Menczer said Hungary rejects immigration, a fact “many don’t like and that is the basis of all criticism"

The Hungarian Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Trade has summoned the Dutch ambassador to Hungary over the “unacceptable statements” made about Hungary by Prime Minister Mark Rutte at an EU elections campaign event.

At a weekend EU election campaign event, Rutte said: “We have, for example, Hungary, where the rule of law is disregarded and they do this as if it would have no consequences”.

At the meeting, State Minister for Information Tamás Menczer rejected Rutte’s “unfounded accusations."

Menczer said the conflict between Hungary and the Netherlands is based on the different approaches regarding immigration. Hungary rejects immigration, a fact “many don’t like and that is the basis of all criticism."
