The Hungarian government hopes that the situation is resolved as soon as possible in accordance with Spain’s constitutional regulations

Hungary’s foreign minister has said that the matters facing Spain and Catalonia at present are a matter for Spanish internal affairs.

“The Hungarian government views the declaration of Catalonian independence as a matter of Spanish internal affairs,” said Péter Szijjártó, minister of Foreign Affairs and Trade.

The minister told MTI that he discussed the situation in Spain following the declaration of Catalonia’s independence with Polish Foreign Minister Witold Waszczykowski by telephone on Saturday morning.

He said that the Hungarian government hopes that the situation is resolved as soon as possible in accordance with Spain’s constitutional regulations.

In Barcelona on Friday, the independence parties of Catalonia’s Parliament voted in favor of a proposal aimed at establishing an independent “Republic of Catalonia”. Spain has since declared rule over the state, and there will be an election on December 21st.
