Hungary's labor shortage down to government creating 600,000 new jobs

People with qualifications have not moved to other countries, the labor shortage is simply because there have been many new jobs created that far exceed the amount of people able to take them

Hungary's labor shortage has only come about because the government has created some 600,000 new jobs in the past few years.

According to Government Spokesperson Zoltán Kovács, people with qualifications have not moved to other countries, the labor shortage is simply because there have been many new jobs created that far exceed the amount of people able to take them.

Kovács expressed the view that the Hungarian economy, which has been continuously growing for four years, has "absorbed” the work force.

He added that measures such as the reduction of taxes and pay rises have become possible with the strengthening of the country.

Kovács also highlighted that it is an elementary interest of the country to have as many skilled workers as possible and to keep qualified workers in Hungary.

"An essential condition of this is that a process of closer wage integration should start compared with both the region’s and the European Union’s average," he concluded.
