Hungary’s minimum wages are set to increase in 2019, it has been revealed.
According to Magyar Idők, minimum wages will rise to a gross 150,000 HUF per month for unskilled and 200,000 HUF for skilled workers.
The newspaper said the figures were based on an agreement reached between the government, employers and employees.
The latest increase means that the Hungarian minimum wage would have more than doubled since the Socialist government was in power in 2009.
The newspaper states that the increase in the skilled labor wage to 200,000 HUF is close to average wage levels and is 230 percent higher than during the last Socialist government.
Experts state that the increase in the minimum wage will have a ripple effect on higher wages, as employers will have to increase those proportionally to avoid tensions in the wage structure.
