Hungary's position regarding Ukraine has not changed

Hungary will continue to block Ukraine’s Euro-Atlantic integration efforts as long as the infringement of minority rights continues

Hungary’s foreign ministry has said the country's position regarding Ukraine has not changed.

Ahead of a two-day NATO summit beginning in Brussels today, Tamas Menczer said Hungary will continue to block Ukraine’s Euro-Atlantic integration efforts as long as the infringement of minority rights continues in that neighbouring country and rights already acquired are not returned to minorities living there.

Menczer added that the Hungarian government will in addition maintain its veto against a NATO-Ukraine summit, any ministerial level meetings and any joint declarations between NATO and Ukraine.

However, he concluded that the government will not raise a veto against the trilateral meeting planned during the summit with the leaders of Georgia and Ukraine which will focus on the security of the Black Sea region and the adoption of a joint statement.
