Hungary's security beefed up for President Putin visit

The TEK will be in charge of performing personal protection tasks during the visit, which includes programs in which the Russian foreign and health ministers will take part on Wednesday and those that the Russian president and his delegation will attend on Thursday

Hungary's security has been beefed up by the TEK counter-terrorism force for Russian President Vladimir Putin's visit to Budapest on Thursday.

The news comes in light of revelations today that the opposition Együtt party are planning demonstrations during his visit.

According to MTI, the TEK will be in charge of performing personal protection tasks during the visit, which includes programs in which the Russian foreign and health ministers will take part on Wednesday and those that the Russian president and his delegation will attend on Thursday.

TEK has also implemented protection measures affecting facilities and public routes in the capital, it said.

TEK said demonstrations will not be banned but police will implement several measures to provide for the security of the internationally protected persons and secure their travel routes.

Commenting on the planned demonstration, a ruling Fidesz party spokesman decried any attempt to abuse democratic rights.
