Kovács: Hungary has no intention of assisting Zelensky in political showdowns

Zoltán Kovács said Ukrainian “political showdowns” demonstrate that Ukraine was not ready for European Union membership.

Zoltán Kovács, the state secretary for international relations and communications, said Hungary has no intention of assisting President Zelensky when it comes to Ukrainian political showdowns. Kovács commented on information on the website of the Ukrainian SZBU security service suggesting that Petro Poroshenko, the former president, was barred from travelling abroad because he would have met with Prime Minister Viktor Orbán. The SZBU said that if Poroshenko met PM Orbán, this would make him “a tool” of Russian security services. Kovács said such “political showdowns” also demonstrated that Ukraine was not ready for European Union membership.
