Minister Szíjjártó: Europe is built on strong nation states

“The Hungarian position is that Europe will only be strong, safe and competitive again if it consists of strong nation states,” said Péter Szíjjártó, Minister of Foreign Affairs and Trade.

The Foreign Minister has said that Hungary’s position is that Europe will only be strong, safe and competitive again if it consists of strong nation states.

Minister Szíjjártó said 2015 was a watershed year in European history because that was the year everyone realized Europe had come under immigration pressure. This has also made it clear that pro-migration forces want to flood Europe with refugees and don’t care about national identities, cultural, religious and historical heritage.

Their goal is to weaken individual member states and create a United States of Europe that would in effect take decision rights away from them and transfer those to Brussels.

“This is absolutely against our interests, as we, Hungarians gave an appropriate answer to migration while Brussels gave the wrong one,” Minister Szíjjártó said. “That is why we must maintain national jurisdictions – particularly that of border defence – because we have a right to safety.”

He said that while there are competing visions regarding the future of Europe, ultimately the winners will be those who take into account the peoples’ opinion.

“We give due respect to everyone, but we also expect respect for the decisions of the Hungarians,” Minister Szíjjártó said. “We are proud of our history, heritage, Christian culture and identity and we want to preserve them in the future.”

There are significant pro-migration forces in Europe and the more vote our side gets, the stronger our voices will be. We must stop migration now and that requires determined and able leadership.
