Ministry of Foreign Affairs: Hungary is concerned about growing tensions between France and Turkey

In a brief statement to About Hungary, Hungary's Foreign Affairs Ministry rings the alarm about the possible escalation of conflicts between NATO allies France and Turkey.

Here's the brief statement from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs:

"Along with other EU Member States, Hungary is concerned about the growing tensions between France and Turkey - two NATO Allies.

We sincerely hope that based on mutual respect, good faith and dialogue they can return to allied cooperation as soon as possible."

A heated exchange of words has recently erupted between the two leaders after French President Emmanuel Macron vowed to crack down on racial Islamism in light of the beheading of educator Samuel Paty two weeks ago by a 18-year-old Chechen refugee.

Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan responded to Macron's initiative by suggesting that the French President might be in need of "some sort of mental treatment."
