Northern section of metro line 3 will be closed from Monday for a year-long renovation

Six stations will be closed between Lehel tér to the northern terminus Újpest Központ until the end of 2018

The northern section of metro line 3 will be closed from Monday for a year-long renovation, it has been announced.

Six stations will be closed between Lehel tér to the northern terminus Újpest Központ until the end of 2018.

Mayor István Tarlós also announced that tunnel reconstruction along the whole line will start simultaneously, and is expected to last until late 2020.

According to MTI, during the reconstruction period, metro line 3, stretching north-south on the Pest side and serving about 600,000 commuters daily, is to operate between the southern end station of Kőbánya-Kispest and Lehel tér on weekdays.

On weekends and during evenings, trains are to be replaced by buses which will ferry passengers between the usual metro stations.
