Number of soldiers protecting Hungary's southern border will be doubled

Intelligence reports indicate that pressure on the border will mount with some 100,000 migrants on the Balkan route and the potential for 3-4 million migrants in Turkey to head to Europe.

Gergely Gulyás, the head of the Prime Minister's Office, has announced that the number of soldiers protecting Hungary's southern border will be doubled.

Gulyás said the government made the decision following increased migration pressure which had been amplified by 60 plus migrants storming the Hungary-Serbia border on Tuesday.

The minister told MTI that the situation on the border had worsened significantly compared with the “relative dormancy” of the past two years.

Intelligence reports indicate that pressure on the border will mount with some 100,000 migrants on the Balkan route and the potential for 3-4 million migrants in Turkey to head to Europe. “That’s why it’s important that relations with Turkey are good,” he said.
