PM Orbán: A strong European People’s Party is required

Prime Minister Viktor Orbán and Hunor Kelemen agree that a strong EPP is required and both parties will support Manfred Weber’s nomination to the post of President of the European Commission

Prime Minister Viktor Orbán has stressed that a strong European People’s Party (EPP) is required following talks with Hunor Kelemen, the President of the Democratic Alliance of Hungarians in Romania (RMDSZ).

The prime minister met with Kelemen in the Parliament building on Monday to discuss the tasks related to the congress of the European People’s Party to be held in Helsinki in November.

According to MTI, both parties also reviewed the common Transylvanian development projects which are taking place with the support of the Hungarian government, with special regard to educational, cultural and economic development projects.

Both leaders agreed that a strong EPP is required, and they are able to fight jointly for Hungarian interests in the most effective possible manner if after the May EP elections a strong EPP group is formed within the European Parliament.

PM Orbán pointed out that, in the present situation, both parties will support Manfred Weber’s nomination to the post of President of the European Commission.
