PM Orbán arrives in Israel on official visit

The prime minister will hold talks with Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and President of the State of Israel Reuven Rivlin

Prime Minister Viktor Orbán has arrived in Israel for an official two-day visit.

He is joined by Deputy Prime Minister Zsolt Semjén, Péter Szijjártó, minister of Foreign Affairs and Trade, Antal Rogán, the minister heading the Cabinet Office of the Prime Minister, and Gergely Gulyás, the minister heading the Prime Minister’s Office.

The prime minister will hold talks with Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and President of the State of Israel Reuven Rivlin during the trip.

Government sources reveal that the two prime ministers will meet on Thursday morning. Their talks will be followed by a plenary meeting, in which Hungary will be represented by the prime minister and all ministers.

The delegation are also due to meet prominent Israelis of Hungarian origin or with other ties to Hungary.

During his visit to Jerusalem, the prime minister will meet Ashkenazi Chief Rabbi of Israel David Lau and will visit the Yad Vashem memorial center, where he will lay a wreath and then plant a tree in the Garden of the Righteous Among the Nations.

The prime minister's visit is courting global media attention. We recently revealed how many view the trip as an important step in dispelling the charges of anti-Semitism in Hungary and the Orbán Government.

Popular regional publication Haaretz has reported on the visit favorably and points out that Minister Szijjártó will meet in the Knesset on Wednesday evening with Regional Cooperation Minister Tzachi Hanegbi, and on Thursday, he will have breakfast with Foreign Ministry Director General Yuval Rotem.
