PM Orbán stressed that security will be one of the greatest values in Europe in future. Not only the peaceful and predictable lives of families will depend on it but also Hungary’s performance and economic success.
PM Orbán made the remarks during the oath-taking ceremony of 227 police officers in Heroes’ Square in Budapest on Monday.
“Only people who come here legally and respect our laws will be allowed through our borders,” the prime minister said.
He said Hungarians are hospitable people. “Every well-intentioned stranger deserves the right of the guest” but it is a common interest that “we should filter out anyone with bad intentions and … ensure our security,” he added.
The prime minister said the police force had increased by 7,000 since 2010 and there will be further increases in future.
PM Orbán said this increase has made it possible to ensure police presence in public areas 24 hours a day,.
He added that more than 15 billion HUF (48.4m EUR) was spent on upgrading the police’s vehicle fleet this year and the entire fleet will be renewed in the next few years.
