PM Orbán on "new boy" Macron: 'That isn’t how we do things around here'

“Macron’s introduction isn’t too encouraging; he thought the best way to show friendship was to immediately stampede into central European countries. This isn’t how we do things around here, but he’ll soon get to know his way around,” the prime minister said

Prime Minister Viktor Orbán has reacted to comments made by French President Emmanuel Macron, where he stated that certain eastern European politicians had “turned their backs on Europe” with “a cynical approach to the union that only served to dispense credit without respecting its values”.

PM Orbán called President Macron “a new boy” in European politics and pointed out that the current EU leaders summit was the first for the recently elected French president.

“Macron’s introduction isn’t too encouraging; he thought the best way to show friendship was to immediately stampede into central European countries. This isn’t how we do things around here, but he’ll soon get to know his way around,” the prime minister said.

Macron's interview was published in Le Figaro, El Pais, Sueddeutsche Zeitung, Corriere della Sera, Le Soir, Le Temps, The Guardian and Gazeta Wyborcza.
