Prime Minister Viktor Orbán has sent his condolences to the family of the Hungarian police officer who was shot dead in Bőny.

A statement by the prime minister, following the shooting of Officer Péter Pálvölgyi on Wednesday morning in the Moson-Sopron County town of Bőny, has been released.

“I was deeply saddened to hear of the death of one of our police officers, who was murdered while on duty. I express my heartfelt condolences to his family," the PM said.

In the statement, the prime minister stressed that “it is unacceptable for anyone to attack the defenders of law and order in Hungary, for whatever reason”.

PM Orbán added that “the most determined and toughest possible action must be taken against the perpetrators of such acts”.
