PM Orbán to meet President Trump on May 13th

The talks will touch on the region’s security, energy supply, the two countries’ bilateral ties and defense cooperation

Prime Minister Viktor Orbán will meet US President Donald Trump in Washington on May 13th.

Péter Szijjártó, Minister of Foreign Affairs and Trade, told a press conference in Brussels on Thursday that the prime minister’s “working meeting” with Trump will be “momentous”.

The minister said the Hungarian government received the official invitation on Wednesday, and it has already been confirmed. The talks will touch on the region’s security, energy supply, the two countries’ bilateral ties and defense cooperation.

“Hungary, of course, sees the US as a strategic partner. Our views are on many issues similar to that of the current US administration. We think similarly about migration, the protection of Christianity and security,” the minister said.

This will be the first top-level US-Hungarian meeting in 14 years. The last was in 2005 when George W. Bush met Hungarian Prime Minister Ferenc Gyurcsány.
