Pope sends his support to Hungarian Papal Institute

Pope Francis has written a letter of congratulations to Cardinal Péter Erdő on the institute's 75th anniversary

Pope Francis has written a letter of congratulations to Cardinal Péter Erdő on the 75th anniversary of the Hungarian Papal Institute in Rome, the Archdiocese of Esztergom-Budapest announced.

The institute has been based in Rome, at the Palazzo Falconieri, since 1940, a legacy maintained by Hungary.

The head of the Catholic Church in Hungary noted that during the country’s Communist rule the institute was exposed to a series of insults and dangers and therefore “sought and found support at the Holy See.”

Pope Francis expressed good wishes and the hope that the institute would continue to promote the intellectual and spiritual progress of all Hungarian priests and other students living among its walls, and their “closest possible community” with the Catholic Church.
