President Áder: Climate change affects future generations

President Áder said climate change is a matter that affects us all and urged a consensus on the topic.

President János Áder has said the climate change issue is neither right-wing nor left-wing, extends beyond government cycles and affects future generations.

During an interview on Kossuth Rádió, President Áder said climate change is a matter that affects us all and urged a consensus on the topic.

The president called the decision by the recently elected municipal council of Budapest to declare a climate emergency “political rhetoric”. He added that a time of crisis calls for extraordinary measures, but the city leaders have only mandated studies to determine possible courses of action.

In response to the president’s remarks, Budapest Mayor Gergely Karácsony said the declaration of a climate emergency was not rhetoric and noted that more than 1,250 organizations had declared such emergencies.
