The Hungarian school year will start in the traditional classroom setting on September 1.
Miklós Kásler, Human Resources Minister, said, however, that the coronavirus situation in neighboring countries was changing rapidly, adding that schools must be prepared to implement protection and prevention measures.
According to MTI, the minister noted that schools have been provided with the necessary guidelines and protocols. The guidelines include methods to avoid congestion at the gates at the start and end of the day, and suggestions regarding the size of classrooms and social distancing.
All schools will undergo thorough disinfecting ahead of the start of the academic year and will be disinfected daily afterwards. Principals will be tasked with preventing the spread of the virus and providing for students who potentially become infected, he said. Their background institutions will provide all necessary support, he added.
The minister also noted that this year, for the first time ever, all school children will be provided textbooks free of charge, adding that some 13.5 million textbooks will have been delivered to over 4,000 schools nationwide by August 28.
