Success of Maccabi Games proves Budapest can host the Olympics, says official

Tamás Deutsch said that although the Hungarian team demonstrated unparalleled sportsmanship throughout the games, the real triumph lay in the infrastructural alterations which took place in Budapest.

Tamás Deutsch, President of MTK Budapest, has highlighted that the success of the Maccabi European Games has proven that Budapest can host major sporting events like the Olympics.

“The competition proved that the Hungarian capital could serve as the host of the Olympics, if the same such projects were to receive enough support,” Deutsch said in an interview with Pesti Srácok.

Deutsch added that although the Hungarian team demonstrated unparalleled sportsmanship throughout the games, the real triumph lay in the infrastructural alterations which took place in Budapest.

Attended by some 2,100 participants and 2,800 spectators, the Maccabi Games posed real difficulties to city planners, which were resolved smoothlessly and in a timely fashion. From logistical solutions such as press accreditations, arranging accomodation and handling security.

Deutsch concluded that the above proved that the organizers are more than capable of coordinating international games of just about any size.
