Sziget Festival pulls in record 565,000 visitors in 2018

According to official figures, the festival received its 9,000,000th visitor on Tuesday and beat the previous visitor record of 496,000 from 2016

The Sziget Festival has proved itself as one of the world’s leading music events after pulling in a record 565,000 visitors this year.

According to official figures, the festival also received its 9,000,000th visitor on Tuesday and beat the previous visitor record of 496,000 from 2016.

Event organizer Tamás Kádár revealed that this year’s festival cost one billion HUF (3 million EUR) more than in 2017, while a further increase of 500 million HUF was planned for the next event. Kádár revealed that even bigger names are planned for next year’s festival.

The Budapest police headquarters (BRFK) has also announced that the crime rate was significantly down at this year’s Sziget Festival compared to last year.

Police made 34 arrests during the 10-day event, most of which were drug-related, BRFK said on its website. Police arrested 45 people at last year’s festival.
