Tata and Jászboldogháza awarded UNICEF’s Child Friendly City 2019 title

UNICEF Hungary awards the title each year to municipalities which treat the rights of children as a top priority.

Tata in western Hungary and Jászboldogháza in the east have both been awarded UNICEF’s Child Friendly City 2019 title.

UNICEF Hungary awards the title each year to municipalities which treat the rights of children as a top priority. This year’s winners were announced at a roundtable marking the 30th anniversary of the UNICEF Convention on the Rights of the Child.

Antónia Mészáros, managing director of UNICEF Hungary, said 41 million children in the world are in need of urgent assistance. She added that 400 million children do not have access to clean drinking water and 200 million are seriously under-nourished.

Budapest Mayor Gergely Karácsony was also present at the roundtable and said air pollution, traffic safety and housing were issues that most affected children in Hungary’s capital, and he pledged improvements in all three areas.
