The EU must provide financial and logistical help to tackle migrant crisis, says former PM of Slovakia

“Not everything that Orbán or Kaczynski say is foolish,” Mikuláš Dzurinda said. “I often feel that the European administration in Brussels interferes with the member states’ competence and that they are barely consulted"

Slovakia’s former prime minister has said that the solution to the migrant crisis is beyond the European Union borders and the EU must provide financial and logistical help.

In an interview with EURACTIV, Mikuláš Dzurinda said it’s important to use the V4 as a tool to promote some regional interests, as a consultation platform.

He pointed out how important it was for the EU leadership to recognize the problems facing each EU country and encouraged dialogue between the Commission and its member states.

“Not everything that Orbán or Kaczynski say is foolish,” he said. “I often feel that the European administration in Brussels interferes with the member states’ competence and that they are barely consulted,” he added.

Dzurinda also points out how the EU should offer financial support to EU Member States to help them cope with the migrant crisis. “And, not only financial but all that is related to the existence of such centers: from basic infrastructure through education to military protection of centers and security for those who live in them,” he said.
