The number of US firms in Hungary drops significantly over five years

Only 2,100 US-owned companies currently operate in Hungary, compared to over 3,400 five years ago

The number of US firms in Hungary has declined over the past five years, dropping from more than 3,000 to slightly over 2,000 today, the daily Népszava has reported.

There has also been a drop in the number of western European affiliates operating in Hungary, but the trend was especially seen in relation to US firms, the paper said, citing information from Opten company information services director Richard Pertics.

According to another source, MTI, only 2,100 US-owned companies currently operate in Hungary, compared to over 3,400 five years ago.

In addition to the decline in the number of companies, their overall turnover also significantly dropped, from a reported 1,200 billion USD in 2010 to 800 billion USD in 2015, the paper added.
