Will Joci Pápai be Hungary's first Eurovision winner?

The Sun newspaper in the United Kingdom has published an extensive piece on Hungary's Eurovision entry for 2017 and asks: Will Joci Pápai be Hungary's first Eurovision winner?

Who is Joci?

Joci comes from the Hungarian city of Tata and has been a celebrity in his home country since shooting to fame in 2005.

The 35-year-old took part in Hungarian X Factor style show Megasztár but despite being knocked out in the early rounds, he still landed a record deal.

His first hit was with the song Ne nézz így rám in 2006 and after that he had successful records, both solo and with the rapper Majka.

In December, he announced he would be one of the acts vying to represent Hungary with the song Origo, which combines hip hop and music from around the world.

How was Joci chosen?

Joci took part in a competition on Hungarian national TV called A Dal 2017, which selected the Eurovision entry.

The winning song was picked by a combination of a jury vote and a public vote.

Joci was the favorite of both the jury and the audience and stormed the competition.

What song is Joci performing?

During Eurovision, Joci will be performing the song Origo, a hip hop influenced track which blends traditional Romani music with Hungarian. It was written by Joci himself.

What are the lyrics to Origo?

The words to Origo may be in Hungarian and Romani but here they are if you want to join in...

Be kell csuknod a szemed,
úgy láthatsz meg engemet.
Hogy meghódítsd a szívem,
ismerned kell lelkemet.

Ha nem kellek, hadd menjek
én csavargónak születtem.
Kínlódtam már eleget,
de az Isten lát engem.

Miért hazudtad azt nekem,
hogy nem számít a színem?
Tudtad barna a szemem,
sosem változik bennem.

Nem kérek már belőled
menj el innen, hagyj engem!
Ne is lássalak téged,
átkozott légy örökre.

Engem négyévesen megszólított az Isten
egy igazi fegyvert adott a kezembe.
Tudtam csak ő vigyázhat rám
többet gyakoroltam vele mint egy szamuráj.
Benne bízhatok, mindig az igazat mondja
vele sírhatok, de az utat mutatja.
Egy olyan szövetség, ami marad örökké
fel nem áldozható, ő a legfőbb kincsem.

Sejtelmes erők laktak a gyerekben
féltek tőle, látszik a szemekben.
A húrjaim támadnak, sírnak a testekben
hiába is véded ki, méreg a hangszerben.
Nagy tömegeket itattam át vele
hallod a dallamom, már tudod a nevemet.
Hosszú az út, sebek a hátamon
ezrek könnyei folynak a gitáromon.
