Zoltán Gera wins best goal for Euro 2016

Gera beat Ronaldo after receiving more than 150,000 votes on the UEFA website

Zoltán Gera has been awarded the best goal from the entire Euro 2016 football tournament, it has been announced.

Gera won the accolade thanks to his striking perfomance and well over 150,000 votes cast since Sunday’s final for his fierce drive against Portugal.

Fans voted for the Hungarian player via the official UEFA website and the results were announced today.

The 37-year-old opened the scoring in Hungary’s 3-3 group stage draw with eventual winners Portugal.

His effort beat off stiff competition from Cristiano Ronaldo’s header against Wales, Xherdan Shaqiri’s overhead kick against Poland, Éder’s final-winning drive against France and Hal Robson-Kanu’s turn and shot for Wales.
